After welcoming her beautiful twins aged 22, Marnie McBride decided she wanted to lose weight in order to improve both her physical and mental health.
At 20st and a size 20, she knew it was time for change but found that while she initially lost weight on a number of popular diet plans it never stayed off for long.
Nine years of yo-yo dieting actually saw her gaining 5st, which impacted her confidence and left her dreading nights out with friends.
But after spotting a post from The Munro Method on Instagram Marnie, from Scotland, thought she would give it a go – a decision that has completely changed her life.
The programme, which aims to help people lose weight long term with nutritional strategies rather than crash diets worked for Marnie, and she’s dropped to 12st 7lbs and wears a size 10.
Now 33, she tells The Mirror: “I had just had my twins. Having four kids obviously my body had changed. I wanted to feel a bit better about myself.
“Other diets didn’t work because they were usually really restrictive, shakes etc, or they taught me nothing about nutrition. So it would be ok for a while when I was doing it but could never stick to it for any period of time and because I hadn’t learned anything then the weight would go back on.
“It was making me miserable it had totally affected my mental health, I was really anxious and depressed and didn’t really want to go out or see friends. The thought of a night out would me make me anxious all week on the lead up.
“I was always very sociable, but I started dreading nights out because I was so self-conscious about my weight.”
The programme has also seen Marnie’s entire attitude towards food change, which means she’s more confident than ever that it will stick.
She explains: “When I joined, I just wanted to lose weight once and for all. I was sick constantly being on a diet.
“I came across Munro on Instagram. I liked Jason’s straight-up attitude. There was no false promises or bulls*** advertising that you’d lose a stone in a week.
“I also liked that no foods seemed to be off-limits and that I could fit them into my life rather than it being my whole life. I have 4 children and a decent social life and previous diets didn’t really accommodate for this.
“One of biggest differences was the community ‘clan munro’ is amazing everyone is so supportive and makes you feel like you’re never alone.
“I have a good relationship with food now, I can eat out and know how to fit it into my day or week.
“I don’t feel guilty about saying yes to cake or takeaways and on the other hand, I also don’t feel guilty when I say no to some things because they don’t align with my goals at that moment in time.
“My depression has gone, and my anxiety is more or less non-existent. I’ve gone from sleeping all day to walking 15-30 thousand steps a day and I found a love for the gym.
“I accept my body and love it for what it has done, and I genuinely have so much confidence now. I went from wearing baggy clothes to wearing sports bras and booty shorts.
“I feel like a much more positive and content person. I’ve been so inspired by the amazing work that Jason does that I’ve now embarked on my own journey to become a coach and help others.”
On the new programme Marnie lost 100lbs in a year and a half, but she wasn’t ‘dieting’ throughout.
She gave herself breaks to live her life, making sure she allowed herself freedom to enjoy herself on holiday and at Christmas.
She said: “To be honest the time flew in because I never felt like I was dieting. I feel amazing.
“It’s changed my life beyond words, my relationships are better, I get up earlier, I look forward to my days, my mental health has improved drastically.
“I just have a zest for life – I actually love my life now! I even decided to become a PT to help other people the way munro has helped me.”
